21 states are experiencing increases in new cases, according to data compiled by The Washington Post.
Alabama, Oregon and South Carolina have seen the largest increases. Alabama had a 92% increase in its seven-day average; Oregon had a 83.8% increase; and South Carolina's seven-day average increased 60.3%.
Hospitalizations have also risen: Arkansas experienced a 120.7% increase in hospitalizations since Memorial Day.
Mass gatherings, including sporting events, political rallies, summer parties, protests, and religious services could worsen the spread of the virus, as cities and states continue to lift restrictions.
